Queen Elizabeth helped pass the GST

Here is an interesting tidbit from Wikipedia.

“On occasion the monarch must personally act directly in partisan affairs. For example, this occurred when Queen Elizabeth II directed, on the advice of Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, that the number of Senate seats be increased to assure passage of the GST. ”

WTF? The Queen intervened to assure we would all be taxed on every single purchase we make as consumers. Kinda makes you wonder why she is our head of state.

It’s an important issue, especially considering that Harper is benefiting by calling an election on his terms using the power of the Governor-General who is the Queen’s representative.
