I zipped through this book this morning and was very impressed with the info within. At 94 pages (the other half is full of recipes), it was a quick read. Written by a cattle rancher who turned vegan at the age of fifty, it details the links between animal protein based diets and Alzheimer’s , heart disease , and cancer. It also goes into the effects on our environment of industrial agriculture and shows just how unsustainable the entire system really is. Myths are presented such as the common misconception that we need to eat meat to get enough protein as well as needing to eat dairy to get enough calcium.
The political climate surrounding these issues is also discussed with regards to the way that industrial agriculture , despite being harmful on a mass scale , is still given massive subsidies which make it hard for small farmers to compete.
